Apple WWDC: All the exciting new things coming your way

Apple Products | Creativity | Laptops & Reviews | Top Tips

The annual Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is arguably the most anticipated event in the development world as well as the apple-verse. This week on the 6th, the event took place at the Apple Park. I will be taking you through the highlights in this blog. Many were anticipating to hear of the upgrades to the iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS. There were also rumours of a redesigned MacBook Air, but alas the apple store was down for the first time since its launch in the year 2017.

Here are some of my favourite highlights from the Monday announcement:

Freestyle your lock screen

The first announcement was the updated iOS 16 that was coming with changes to the lock screen, giving iPhone users the flexibility and freedom to change the fonts, backdrops, clock and date colours as well as the widgets and direct control over certain apps.

Notifications for live activities

A new notification called Live Activities allows for live updates for live events like sports events and Uber rides. I especially think my husband will enjoy watching the score lines of other games on his notification roll while he is tuned it to another game!

A new focus

Focus has new updates as well that extend to the lock screen widgets and photos, meaning that your lock screen can now command what happens on your lock screen as well. More interestingly is that it can also filter tab groups Safari, conversations in Messages, and events in calendars

Message once, twice.. or not

Messages app will allow for apple users to undo send and edit messages that have already been sent. During dictation, the keyboard stays open to allows the user to switch from voice to touch at any point. Dictation also automatically adds punctuation to the text.

Copy and paste with flair

Live texts updates are now working on video. This means that while watching a video the user can pause and copy test out of it! Another one for the creatives is smart cropping that is lifting items out of photos to drop them to a Message.

On your watch

The updated watchOS 9 will come with new notifications and podcasts app. The workout app is getting reworked to provide metrics, views, and training experiences inspired by high performing athletes.

The watch will now be able to measure the vertical oscillation metric, that’s how much one moves up and down. Stride length and ground contract time will also be measured.

The new custom workout option lets users focus on speed or endurance with distance and time intervals. Users will also be able to use their phone to track their fitness regardless of their being with an apple watch or not.

Buy now and pay later

Users in developed countries will be enjoying these smart updates to contactless payments that will now allow the merchants accepts payments on the iPhone itself. Apple Pay is also introducing Apple Pay Later that allows for payments to be made in four equal payments over 6 weeks without interest or fees.

Remapping

Apple Maps has redesigned maps in 11 countries including France, Switzerland and New Zealand.

The new and improved M2

This one I am personally excited for! The M1 was such a revelation to me, and hearing that they have been improvements to that is such an out of this world feeling. The new M2 promises to maximise performance while minimising power consumption. It will have 20% more transistors than the M1, 100Gb of unified memory bandwidth, up to 50% from M1 and 18% greater percentage and the same wattage. The M2 will deliver 87% of peak performance of 12-core PC laptop chip with a quarter of the power usage.

The new MacBook Air will be the first to have the new M2 chip and it had been completely redesigned to accommodate the M2 chip. It will come in 4 finishes, Silver, space gray, starlight and midnight. There’s 20% reduction in volume when compare to the previous Air, making it 11.3mm thin and 2,7 pound heavy, that’s about 1.2kg.

It will include a Magsafe and two thunderbolt ports on the left and audio jack headphone support on the left. Its liquid retina display has been expanded around the sides and there’s a notch. The 13.6inch display will have thinner borders. It will also be 25% brighter than before and offer 1 billion colours. The speakers and mics have been integrated between the keyboard and display.

The battery life will last all-day with up to 18 hours video playback. The new Air will achieve a faster charge with 50% battery in only 30 minutes. It will also include an active cooling system that will sustain maximum performance.

The prices will start from $1199 and education will start wt $1099.
Here it is, my favourite highlights. What are looking forward to from the announcements? Lets talk in the comments
